'School of the Year'
Having been nominated as a finalist in the Belfast Telegraph 'Making the Difference' Awards, Hezlett primary School staff and pupils went for a big night out to the awards ceremony in The Grand Opera House in Belfast. Hezlett PS was nominated in the 'Best School' category for all the wonderful eco work we have been involved in, and although we didn't win overall, it was a huge achievement and a great event!
Causeway School
As usual, the P7s and P4s had their visits to the Causeway school. The P7s experienced life in a Victorian classroom and the P4s got to grips with education in the 1950s. I think it's safe to say that we're all happy with how school life has changed since then!!

Primary 6 Japanese Festival
March 12th 2012 marked the one year anniversary of the tsunami that devastated many lives in Japan. Coleraine Multi-Cultural Forum held a festival in Coleraine to raise money and awareness to help families affected by the disaster. Primary 6 had a number of visits from Japanese students and members of the forum who taught them Japanese songs which they performed at the festival. They have also been involved in a number of workshops learning about the effects of natural disasters and have really enjoyed learning to play the Japanese Taiko drums!
Sentinus Smart Gear
P6B have been working on designing and creating various pieces of ‘Smart Gear.’ Smart gear is any kind of gadget that works using sensors and outputs in a small electrical circuit. The project was organised by a company called Sentinus and our children really enjoyed designing and creating some really useful pieces of equipment. A few of the children travelled to La Mon hotel to present their gadgets along with 53 other schools from Northern Ireland.
Hockey Champions!
Huge Congratulations to the girls’ hockey team who have been crowned double champions this year, having won both regional tournaments, in Limavady and at the University of Ulster. They played brilliantly at both, and didn’t concede a single goal at either competition. But they scored plenty and represented the school so well. Congratulations girls!
About our school
We are a controlled primary school which caters for boys and girls from age 4 to 11 years. We hope as you read you will gain some insight into our school and its organisation.
Our ethos is built upon encouraging within our pupils a positive self-esteem as well as a sense of value for the others who make up the school community. We aim to encourage the development of individuals morally, socially and educationally. At the same time we aim to foster a strong sense of identity through the development of teamwork. We have built these aims into our curriculum and our systems in school so that our pupils should experience a consistent approach both inside and outside the classroom.
It is very difficult to cover every detail of school life on a webpage. Therefore if you feel you would like to discuss the school and its organisation, or the specific needs of your child, please do not hesitate to contact us at school to arrange a visit.
